Game Management

Our feeding program has been proven over time and we strive to be successful. We feed Cargill protein feed supplement and Moorman’s mineral. We have seen our deer increase their live weight by 40 pounds in a two year span. We are able to track this because every buck shot at Spike Box Land & Cattle is aged, weighed, and measured. We use minimal high starch corn due to studies proving that corn being fed as the only source of supplementation is detrimental. Our animal nutrition program is paramount to us. We strive to provide the very best feed for our deer.

Since Record Rack feeds were launched in 2003, some key technologies have been a part of the product. In addition some things like rumen health technology have been added more recently. The following is a list of some of the important components of Record Rack.

Protein and Amino Acids ~
Record Rack feeds are balanced to provide protein to help the rumen microbes grow as well as bypass amino acids to help with muscle development and antler growth.

Minerals ~
Enhanced phosphorus level to provide for bone and antler development. Managed calcium to phosphorus ratio to keep good phosphorus absorption.

Rumen Health (rH) technology ~
Blending of digestible fiber for energy, coarse fiber for rumen function, and yeast to maintain optimal rumen digestion without causing rumen acidosis.

Organic Trace minerals ~
Copper and Zinc are key trace minerals for the function of the immune system. Manganese is important for reproduction. Zinc and Manganese are needed for bone and antler development. Cobalt is important for vitamin B12 synthesis in the rumen. B12 is then important for energy metabolism in the deer.

Probiotics ~
Lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium, enterococcus, Lactobacillus casei These bacteria grow in the small intestine and help to create a environment where bacteria like e coli cannot survive. A healthy small intestine will improve absorption of nutrients and reduce the maintenance cost associated with maintain the small intestine.

In addition to the current technology we are currently conducting research on: Antler Growth, bone and liver mineral status, rumen fermentation and fermentation acids, as well at palatability.
